Welcome to Access, JLT Specialty’s 12-month apprenticeship programme.
Access has been designed to give you the skills and experience needed to kick-start a career at one of the world’s leading specialist insurance brokers.
Based in Birmingham, Access Apprentices have placements in 3 of our specialist teams over the course of 12 months.
This means that you could be arranging cover for some of the world’s largest super yachts as part of our Marine team or working with our Credit, Political & Security Risks division to ensure clients are able to recover from security incidents.
These experiences are normally reserved for those starting a career in London - the historical centre of the specialty insurance market. However, at JLT Specialty we believe in doing things differently, and have built a hub of insurance specialists in Birmingham, known as Trading.
Our unique structure means that, unlike our competitors, we can offer exposure to specialty insurance broking in the heart of Birmingham. We believe that this makes Access an apprenticeship programme without rival in the West Midlands.
As an Access Apprentice at JLT Specialty, you will work towards professional qualifications, with the support and guidance of a mentor. By the end of the programme, we expect you have to successfully achieved a Certificate in Insurance.
However, we know that a career in the insurance industry requires more than just technical knowledge. Communication, negotiation and time management are all critical skills. That’s why we ensure all Access Apprentices are given soft skills training. You will also have the opportunity to shadow senior managers, giving you insight into decision-making at the highest levels of our company.
You will also have a dedicated ‘sponsor’ throughout, who will be able to provide support and guidance as you progress through the programme.
At the end of the scheme, you will have a strong understanding of our business and the specialty insurance market. With a range of soft skills and contacts throughout the business, you will be in a prime position to take the next step in your career, by applying for permanent position at JLT Specialty.
As an Access Apprentice you will receive a competitive annual salary of £14,000.
We also offer highly attractive reward packages. We are aware of how integral our employees are to our progress, so we ensure that everyone shares in that success. Typical benefits include:
- Employee share schemes

- Generous holiday entitlement
